HILLS OF BOLOGNA, A PASSION FOR GOOD WINE: Pignoletto and Barbera
Biokimia closely followed Pignoletto and Barbera wine producers in the Bologna area with advice on the most suitable products to be used and applied at the proper time in order to achieve the best possible results.
The 2012 grape season will naturally come to an end at grape harvest that will provide the long awaited for wine. It has been a very difficult season marked by a significant drought that hit the vines at a most critical time.
The technicians and farmers who introduced our nutritional programmes into their schemes have given us very positive feed back on the quality of the grapes, both for the freshly harvested as for next to be harvested grapes. Customer satisfaction is the very best reward for Biokimia and is also proof of excellent on field performance from our nutritional range of products, balanced and customised according to each grape variety, environmental condition and sought after quality-quantity targets.
Our nutritional programmes are divided into various products, all can be mixed with the most commonly used pesticides.
This range of products is characterized by an exclusive form of phosphorous content (obtained by phosphorous acid) that triggers a nourishing and protective action during adverse environmental conditions and parasitical attacks. Phos-Phytos PK 32-21 + micro provides potassium and a balanced mix of micro elements, it is indicated during the shooting phase “10-15 cm” and through to ripening. The phosphorous acid content in Phos-Phytos Mag is a carrier of magnesium, a primary trace element for photosynthesises (fundamental for Prosecco grape quality targets); Phos-Phytos Zn has zinc contents, used to promote homogeneous germination thanks to the starter action accomplished through this element. This exceptional effect has shown to be very effective in cases where the vines are particularly old (excellences often to be found in the hills of Bologna), giving a prompt and homogeneous germination. In some vines it was possible to enhance the total and volatile acidity, subsequently noticeable in the must, with applications of Phos-Phytos NP 3-32 + 3 MgO + 4Mn during the last stage, that provided higher dry substance production and increased the synthesis of organic acid in the grapes.
During pre-blossoming, Biokimia proposes Active Global Plant and Alga Stim to stimulate maximum plant efficiency, encourage an appropriate balance between the vegetable/reproduction phase and lengthen the rachis, thus thinning the grape cluster on grape varieties characterized by too compact bunches. Interesting results can be found with the association of these products and Boro Plus, before and after blossoming. At the same time it is important to prevent rachis desiccation with applications of Phytoammina + 22MgO and Nitrocal Mg + micro for a suitable supply of calcium and magnesium. From petal fall up to veraison we advise using products from our Phytoammina range, to be mixed with Phos-Phytos products. The free amino acid and low weight molecular peptide contents enhance wood maturation and cluster ripening and determines the qualitative characteristics of the grapes: Phytoammina 12-6-30 + 2 MgO + micro + amminoacidi is suggested during the first phases of berry ripening, whilst Phytoammina 3-5-50 + amminoacidi + micro is recommended at veraison due to its’ higher ratio of potassium.
Exclusively for use on the Barbera vines in the Bologna region, when necessary and where the soil is loose with inconsistent and inadequate nitrogen levels we advise applications of Phytoammina 24-6-12 + 2 MgO + amminoacidi + micro to achieve higher levels of dry substance production in the berries.
